What compounding is

Medication, rebuilt around the patient

A compounded medication is prepared by a pharmacist for one specific patient, from a prescription, in a strength or form that is not commercially available. It is how a two-year-old gets a heart medication that only exists as an adult tablet, how a patient allergic to a dye gets the same drug without it, and how a pain medication reaches an arthritic knee as a cream instead of passing through the stomach.

Compounded preparations are not Health Canada-approved manufactured products. They are individually prepared under provincial pharmacy regulation: at Mediglen, that means NAPRA non-sterile compounding standards, College of Pharmacists of BC requirements, documented formulas, ingredient lot tracking, and pharmacist verification on every preparation.

Mediglen has been one of the Tri-Cities' recognized compounding pharmacies at this location since 2009, working daily with physicians at the adjacent Eagle Ridge Medical Clinic and prescribers across the Lower Mainland.
